The Course of Empire 2006
Single-channel video, color, silent, 00:60:00

A silent, one-hour-long color video documenting the top 1/3 of the Torre Latinoamericana (Latinoamericana Tower) in Mexico City. The Latinoamericana Tower is the world's first major skyscraper successfully built on a highly active seismic land.

This project is a reference to Andy Warhol’s 1964 film Empire which was a silent, eight-hour-long black-and-white film in which the camera focused on the Empire State Building in New York from dusk till dawn. The title of the video also alludes to a five-part series of paintings created by Thomas Cole in the years 1833–36. The series of paintings depicts the growth and fall of an imaginary city.
